The Ericaceae family has many genera and species, some of which have been the subject of chemical and biological studies to identify and isolate secondary metabolites that may be biologically important.
Research on species in this family has identified the presence of important secondary metabolites, including flavonoids and terpenes, which have been used as chemotaxonomic markers
