Natural products (NPs) have been centerstage in human life even after the rise of synthetic chemistry, and humans simply would not survive without plants, fungi, and their metabolites. For the last decades, if not centuries, the focus of research and development has been chiefly on the functionality of these products, i.e. their pharmacological activity, other opportunities for uses, and the like.
