Traditional knowledge in Cauca has highlighted the use of medicinal plants for the Diabetes Mellitus treatments. Surveys conducted with medicinal plants vendors, in Popayán City, prioritized the species Calea sp. and Hedyosmum spp. The parameters for microwave-assisted extraction were defined, employing the experimental design with a Greco-Latin square model, evaluating the variables of time, radiation power, plant species, and solvent, finding no statistically significant differences among the levels of the studied variables. Finally, these extracts were subjected to a preliminary phytochemical screening indicating the presence of flavonoids and saponins
