Abstract

The extraction and characterization of the essential oil from the leaves of Eucalyptus camaldulensis, an invasive species in Quindío, is carried out. Extraction conditions were optimized by microwave-assisted hydrodistillation. The chemical composition of the oil is used by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. The results of the chemical composition revealed a total of 6 major constituents in the EO, which were Citronellal (63.27%), potent antibacterial, antifungal, insecticidal and acaricidal [1]; Isopulegol (28.10%) known mainly for its antihyperlipidemic and analgesic activity [2] and Citronellol (7.10%), with anticonvulsant, antihyperalgesic properties [3].
