In this study, a chlorophyll estimation method was developed using pheophytin a, obtained from Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, as a reference. Pigments were extracted with acetone, and a calibration curve was generated by UV-Vis spectrometry and fluorometry. The method was applied in phytotoxicity and allelopathy tests with Lactuca sativa L. var. longifolia, correlating chlorophyll's presence with the plants' physiological activity. The viability of H. rosa-sinensis as an economical and accessible reference was demonstrated.
