About the Journal

Revista Productos Naturales

The Revista Productos Naturales (RPN) (ISSN 1916-2413) is an open-access electronic journal dedicated to the specialized dissemination of scientific research. It publishes fundamental and applied research articles with significant contributions to the science, technology, and industry of natural products of plant, animal, or microbial origin, including both terrestrial and marine organisms.

RPN is completely free for authors and readers. There are no submission, processing, publication, or access fees. The journal is managed through Open Journal Systems and hosted on Nozomi Science, a nonprofit academic portal dedicated to supporting open-access scholarly communication and the preservation of scientific knowledge.

Aims and Scope

The Revista Productos Naturales aims to publish high-quality research articles, reviews, and short communications in the broad field of natural products. The journal covers the discovery, characterization, synthesis, biological evaluation, and applications of specialized metabolites, as well as interdisciplinary studies related to them.

The journal welcomes contributions in areas including, but not limited to:

  • Phytochemistry
  • Pharmacognosy
  • Ethnopharmacology
  • Natural products chemistry
  • Natural products biotechnology
  • Biological activities of natural products

The journal seeks to strengthen the connection between academic research and technological or industrial development based on biodiversity. This includes suppliers of biological raw materials, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, nutraceutical, and agricultural industries, as well as designers of equipment and technologies for biodiversity-based industries.

Major thematic categories related to specialized metabolites

Contributions may fall into the following major areas:

a) Analytical methods, bioassays, quality control and assurance

b) Ethnobotany, ethnopharmacology, and ethnoveterinary studies

c) Chemotaxonomy

d) Phytochemistry, pharmacognosy, and medicinal chemistry

e) Ecological chemistry and allelopathy

f) Pharmaceutical, cosmetic, nutraceutical, and agrochemical products based on biodiversity

g) Biosynthesis, biotechnology, and molecular biology

h) Chemistry and biochemistry combined with biological, sensory, nutritional, and toxicological evaluations

i) Physical and chemical changes induced by processing or storage

j) Safety and toxicology

k) Metabolomics

When new compounds are reported, manuscripts that also include biological evaluation are preferred.
