Abstract

In female rats, during the metaestrus-diestrus phases, a higher state of anxiety is detected, which is prevented with 17β-estradiol, but it is associated with the activation of oncogenes. Therefore, alternatives such as genistein are proposed. Three experimental groups were included: vehicle, genistein, and 17β-estradiol. The animals were evaluated in the elevated plus-maze (EPM) and locomotor activity tests. They were divided into subgroups according to the phase of the estrous cycle. The vehicle group during the M-D phase spent less time in the open arms and showed a higher anxiety index in the EPM, an effect that was prevented with genistein.
