Abstract

The (E)-2-(Benzothiazol-2-yl)-3-arylacrylonitrile hybrids combine two structures with reported biological activity: the benzothiazole core and the acrylonitrile group. In this study, 16 compounds were synthesized and purified, and their structures were confirmed by spectroscopy. Their antiparasitic activity was evaluated against Trypanosoma cruzi (EC₅₀ = 4.27 µM), Plasmodium falciparum (EC₅₀ = 15.63 µM), and Leishmania brasiliensis (EC₅₀ > 4 µM). Additionally, cytotoxicity assays revealed selectivity indices of up to 15. These results suggest that these hybrids are promising candidates for the development of new antiparasitic agents.
